The first month

Now that we finally did the delivery we'll add some more pictures of our new cuties as they have grown a lot this month. With our crude measurements this morning here are the latest stats. Elena - 9 lbs. 21 1/2 in. Abby - 9 lbs. 21 in.

All 5 of us!
The best big sister anyone could ask for!

She always wants them to be happy...

and beautiful!

My parents came to help with our chaotic household and they've been great! I don't know what we would have done without them.

Tanner Twins

Now that it has been a month since the babies were born we're finally getting to documenting it. Time has really flown, but everyone is doing well.

April 16 started out as a normal day. I had my 36 week Dr. appointment at 10am. I dropped Adriana off at a friend's house for a few hours (or so I thought) and headed to the Dr. I had my ultrasound and Baby B was still breech, which was not optimal, but the Dr. was willing to still try it normal hoping she would flip once Baby A was out. Then I saw the Dr. I was still just dilated to 1 cm and the cervix was nice and long. (A good thing until you want to get the babies out) There weren't any signs of the babies coming soon and he started talking about the possibility of scheduling a C-section for the next week. Since the beginning I've wanted to have a regular delivery so this made me nervous and emotional, but still thought that they could still come on their own before the next week.

Then the ultrasound technician came in with her notes and the story changed. The fluid of Baby A was low and he said we needed to do a C-section that day. Low fluid can mean that the placenta is weak and the baby might not be getting all the nutrients that she needs. After this news I just broke down. It was not supposed to be like this. His office is in the hospital so he told me to go upstairs and check-in. Can that be welcome news to anyone? Yeah, just check yourself in to the hospital so we can cut through your stomach. Anyway, I called Mark and sent him home to get all our things and then come as fast as possible. I also called our doula who was going to come help us through the delivery. I took my time getting upstairs.

Although this wasn't what I had pictured at all, things worked out well and both babies were nice and healthy which is the real goal. I got myself checked in, made a few more phone calls and the preparations began. The actual C-section was very fast and the Dr. did a great job.

Here are the pictures of the before and during. All the black and white pictures were taken by my doula. Since it wasn't a normal delivery she supported us as well as took amazing photos. She did a great job and we have to give her the credit. Earth Mama Photography

3 days before the babies came. Anyone want to try that on for size? Didn't think so.

My Top 10 - You know you're having twins if...

Okay, so I have to write a little more about the pregnancy. We're nearing the end with about 2 weeks to go (to 38 weeks which is full-term for twins.) The little twinkies are weiging in really well at about 5 lbs. 5 oz. and 5lb. 15oz. according to the ultrasound. I'll spare you what I'm weighing in at. We have our good days and our not as good days, but I think you really have to keep your head up if you want to survive what feels like 60 or so weeks of pregnancy feeling full-term for the last 12! I get exhausted doing just about anything, but we're on the homestretch. We are very excited for these little girls to join our family! It has been an experience already and we know it will just keep getting better. They move a lot now and it's funny to see my belly get all lopsided when they change positions.

We've come up with a Top 10 list and figured it was about time since our last one was over a year ago (about Mexico ). If you haven't read it, you should check it out. So obviously this one is about twins. It is meant to be humorous and we've had fun laughing at all the crazy differences. I know that some of these things are common among single births, but they are just more exaggerated and prolonged when there are two twinkies growing instead of one. I've also added a few of my maternity photos which were taken at 32 weeks.

You know you're having twins if...
10 - People start asking when the baby is due a few days after you have told your family and close friends. You know it is faux pas to say anything about a woman being pregnant unless you are competely sure, so this says a little about your size.

9 - At about 24 weeks you feel full-term and strangers will stop you and make enough comments to write a book. Some ask when are you due with the intonation that says "It must be any day now." Or they just say that out loud.

8 - Doing dishes is easier from the side because you can actually reach the sink. This doesn't mean that it's more comfortable.

7 - When driving, even when you have the seat as far back as you can while still reaching the clutch, your belly touches the steering wheel.

6 - Everything on the floor seems like a mile away and just out of reach. And to top it off there is some sort of magnet that draws everything your touch or come in close contact to fall to the floor.

5 - You can sit a glass, plate, or a regular size book flat on your tummy.

4 - Your belly has a mind or two of it's own. Several times I have turned on our gas stove without knowing it until I hear the clicking and think, "What is that noise?" I also reach across the counter or table and things get knocked off by my massive protrusion.

3 - You can rest your belly on the sink comfortably while you wash your hands.

2 - At night you are surrounded with pillows to support every part of your body and you still feel like you could use a few more for better sleep.

1 - XL mens shirts (like your husband's) come way past your elbows, but still don't cover your tummy.

This is one we took around the same time. Don't you wish you had a belly like this?
