Now that it has been a month since the babies were born we're finally getting to documenting it. Time has really flown, but everyone is doing well.
April 16 started out as a normal day. I had my 36 week Dr. appointment at 10am. I dropped Adriana off at a friend's house for a few hours (or so I thought) and headed to the Dr. I had my ultrasound and Baby B was still breech, which was not optimal, but the Dr. was willing to still try it normal hoping she would flip once Baby A was out. Then I saw the Dr. I was still just dilated to 1 cm and the cervix was nice and long. (A good thing until you want to get the babies out) There weren't any signs of the babies coming soon and he started talking about the possibility of scheduling a C-section for the next week. Since the beginning I've wanted to have a regular delivery so this made me nervous and emotional, but still thought that they could still come on their own before the next week.
Then the ultrasound technician came in with her notes and the story changed. The fluid of Baby A was low and he said we needed to do a C-section that day. Low fluid can mean that the placenta is weak and the baby might not be getting all the nutrients that she needs. After this news I just broke down. It was not supposed to be like this. His office is in the hospital so he told me to go upstairs and check-in. Can that be welcome news to anyone? Yeah, just check yourself in to the hospital so we can cut through your stomach. Anyway, I called Mark and sent him home to get all our things and then come as fast as possible. I also called our
doula who was going to come help us through the delivery. I took my time getting upstairs.
Although this wasn't what I had pictured at all, things worked out well and both babies were nice and healthy which is the real goal. I got myself checked in, made a few more phone calls and the preparations began. The actual C-section was very fast and the Dr. did a great job.
Here are the pictures of the before and during. All the black and white pictures were taken by my doula
. Since it wasn't a normal delivery she supported us as well as took amazing photos. She did a great job and we have to give her the credit.
