Often I hear this phrase at the most inopportune times, such as when I'm nursing or bathing A & E, while I'm putting them to bed, or the best, when we are out and about. Not all have ended with the success of making it to the potty. There is often a puddle on the floor next to the potty or somewhere along the way. Now Adriana knows exactly what to do when this happens. She takes her bottoms off, puts them in the sink and starts the water to get them soaking. Sometimes she gets all this done before I get back from putting someone down to bed. I just have to write about a few experiences we've had while on the go. The best is when we went to Kohls before Christmas last year. (Luckily I had a friend with me to help with the chaos.) I get Adriana out of her car seat and find her all wet. For some crazy reason, I didn't have any extra clothes for her in the car and no diapers since she was only wearing them at night. We walk into the store and head straight for the bathroom. I strip her down, clean her up, and squeeze a size 2 diaper on her. Lucky for us Kohls is always having sales so we just bought her a new pair of pants and put them on her. We've had a few other instances like that, even on the airplane, although that time it was from spilling her cranberry juice all over.
Lately the interesting part is when she tells us that she needs to go (before the fact), especially when we are out of the house. Once I was in the post office, carrying one baby and the other in the car seat. No bathroom. We walked a few stores down to a restaurant and kindly used their facilities. It has also happened several times as we return to the car after shopping. Usually I have already put both babies in their car seats and I hear, "Mommy, my pee is coming!" I resort back to the diaper (now it's a size 3 at least) to last until we make it home. This is much easier and more time effective than taking both babies out, etc. Once it happened twice in one day. First coming home from the gym and the other was after grocery shopping. The diaper was dry one of those times. I know every parent goes through this and maybe some of you are nodding your head thinking of similar stories.
Okay this blog is getting way too long. I have more stories than anyone wants to hear. I do want to do a blog about the adventures we have with twins, but I've only started it. That pretty much sums it up... Anyway, the reason I am writing this is because of 2 times Adriana had to go potty yesterday and this morning which made me think of all these funny stories. We were at the mall yesterday and had just returned to the car. After putting Elena in her car seat I hear those famous words. This time I decided that since Abigail was still in the stroller we could all go back in. So out comes Elena and we tramp back into the mall to find the nearest restroom. Everything worked out and we finally made it back to the car and home. Then this morning she was saying a prayer before breakfast and it went something like this, "Heavenly Father, thank you... I have to go potty!" It is times like these that I just have to laugh and think about all the fun we have with kids.
Now I can't wait until we get to potty train Elena & Abigail.
